We must increase punishments for criminals motivated by hate.

As your Attorney General, I will:

Amend our laws to make hate crimes a violent crime for the purpose of jail time
Amend state law to reinstate hate crimes enhancement penalties
Oppose the early release of violent criminals who have been convicted of hate crimes
Develop a statewide law enforcement task force to prevent hate crimes, investigate and vigorously prosecute hate crimes

We need to hold criminals accountable for the crimes they commit, especially those who commit hate crimes.

California has failed to aggressively prosecute and convict violent criminals whose crimes are hate crimes. We must change the laws and enact appropriate punishments for those criminals.
